In Genesis 12 God spoke twenty-seven words to Abraham that created an entirely new life for him and his wife Sarah. Last week we looked at those words and what it means to be blessed by God so that we can be a blessing. This week we will look at the backstory of Abraham and Sarah before they heard those words. We hope to ask questions like:
- How does the Tower of Babel episode in Chapter 11 help us understand God’s blessing for Abram?
- What are some of the myths and old stories that surround Abraham’s origin?
- What do the names in this family – like Abram, Sarai, Lot, Milcah and Jessica – give us a clue to the underlying depths of the story?

- How do the early chapters of Genesis and the Tower of Babel shed light on this blessing?
- How does the Reformed tradition view this blessing compared to other theological traditions?
